Lockhart goes out with a boom at his final Deer Valley festival

Keith Lockhart doesn't like the idea of going out with a bang - that sounds too dramatic, says the Utah Symphony music director, who will be stepping down at the end of the 2008-09 season.

But he doesn't mind borrowing the metaphor, as the launch of his fifth and final Deer Valley Music Festival will be marked with a boom: Saturday's July 19 Utah Symphony Pops concert features Tchaikovsky's "1812" Overture - live cannons and all - with Lockhart at the podium.
