Keith Lockhart Leads His First Full Musical

RODGERS AND HAMMERSTEIN’S CLASSIC “CAROUSEL,” JUNE 13-15 AT SYMPHONY HALL

Keith Lockhart leads the Boston Pops in three concert performances of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s beloved musical Carousel, featuring Broadway luminaries Rebecca Eichenberger and Aaron Lazar and four talented singers from the Tanglewood Music Center. Carousel is the first full musical that Mr. Lockhart has done with the Boston Pops. The program, sponsored by New England Coffee Company, will be performed at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 13; Thursday, June 14; and Friday, June 15. Mr. Lockhart and the Pops will reprise their Carousel program at Tanglewood on July 10. VIP Ticket Packages are still available for the Tanglewood performance.

Richard Rodgers himself called Carousel his favorite score, and its timeless tunes like “You’ll Never Walk Alone” and “If I Loved You” have become staples of the musical theater genre over the last half-century. Rebecca Eichenberger (Nettie) is an experienced Broadway actress who has sung in Broadway and national-tour productions of Phantom of the Opera, 1776, Ragtime, and Carousel, in addition to roles with the Los Angeles Opera and Sacramento Light Opera. Aaron Lazar (Billy Bigelow) is one of Broadway’s fastest-rising talents, with acclaimed New York performances in the Broadway revival of Les Misérables and The Light in the Piazza at Lincoln Center, which was broadcast on PBS’s “Live at Lincoln Center” program.

The Pops will be joined in its Carousel performances by four Fellows from the Tanglewood Music Center, the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s summer music academy for talented emerging professional musicians. Soprano Eve-Lyn de la Haye (Julie Jordan) of Victoria, British Columbia, has recorded for the Canadian Broadcasting Company, and New Jersey native and mezzo-soprano Rebecca Jo Loeb (Carrie) recently completed her master’s degree at the Manhattan School of Music. Tenor Matthew Anderson (Mr. Snow), a Kansan-turned-Bostonian, has sung in education and outreach performances with the Cincinnati Opera Resident Ensemble, and baritone Mischa Bouvier (Jigger) of Shirley, N.Y., has sung with such ensembles as the Long Island Philharmonic and New Mexico Symphony Orchestra.

The Boston Pops’ Carousel programs also feature the talents of Casey Hushion, stage director; Larry Goldberg, music director; and members of the Tanglewood Festival Chorus, John Oliver, conductor.
