BOSTON’S FOURTH OF JULY PRESENTED BY LIBERTY MUTUAL GROUP

Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and Joe Perry join Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra for the 2006 Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular, Tuesday, July 4, at 8:30 p.m. at the Hatch Memorial Shell on the Charles River Esplanade in Boston.  Tyler and Perry – rock-and-roll superstars with long-standing local roots – will perform several of Aerosmith’s all-time hits, including “Dream On,” “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing,” and “Walk This Way.”

This year’s Boston Pops’ Fourth-of-July program opens with Wrentham native and American Idol finalist Ayla Brown, in her Boston Pops debut, singing the “The Star-Spangled Banner.”  International a cappella sensation Rockapella will be featured in the concert’s first half, which also includes the Overture to Bernstein’s Candide, a patriotic sing-along, and the traditional performance of Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture.

Boston’s CBS4 will broadcast the Boston Pops July Fourth concert locally from 8 to 10 p.m., with CBS4 anchors Lisa Hughes and Jack Williams as hosts.  At 7 p.m., Paula Ebben and Scott Wahle, co-anchors of CBS4 News’ morning and noon newscasts, will host “Celebrating American Heroes,” a one-hour pre-show spotlighting local patriotic heroes and bringing viewers behind the scenes of America’s biggest birthday party.  At 10 p.m., the broadcast goes national, as music lovers from coast to coast join in the celebration on the CBS Television Network (10 p.m. ET/delayed PT).  The hour-long broadcast culminates with a fireworks display over the Charles River, and will be presented uninterrupted and commercial-free courtesy of Liberty Mutual Group.

CBS’ hour-long “Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular” will be hosted by Dr. Phil McGraw and Robin McGraw.

Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular is a joint production of Boston 4 Celebrations Foundation, Inc., the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the Department of Conservation and Recreation.  David Mugar, through the Boston 4 Celebrations Foundation, produces the free, daylong event.  Each year since 1974, Boston 4 Celebrations has provided the event’s fireworks, barges, portable restrooms, sound and video systems, complimentary programs, and overall coordination.  For the past seven years, Sony JumboTron screens have been placed on both sides of the Charles River, allowing more concertgoers to see as well hear the concert.  This year, television viewers will enjoy an uninterrupted fireworks display thanks to Liberty Mutual Group.

The Boston Pops began performing concerts on the Charles River Esplanade in 1929 with famed conductor Arthur Fiedler and members of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.  Each year, the concert is one of the most popular events held in Boston, with a live audience of more than 500,000 spectators.

All programs and artists are subject to change.  For more information on Boston’s Fourth of July, visit www.july4th.org.
