Maria Perry to Join Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops to Sing at the Orchestra's July Fourth Extravaganza

After competing against hundreds of singers nationwide, Maria Perry has been named the PopSearch 2007 Grand Champion. As the 2007 PopSearch Grand Champion, Maria Perry has won the once in a lifetime opportunity to perform with Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops at the world-renowned Fourth-of-July celebration. In addition, Maria Perry will be featured as a guest artist on the Pops’ summer tour and receive a $5,000 prize.

In (Thursday’s) final round of competition, Maria Perry won over the judges with a powerful performance of Not While I’m Around from the musical Sweeney Todd, edging out the two other PopSearch 2007 finalists, Gisela Johnson of Hyde Park, Massachusetts and Lydia Harrell of Everett, Massachusetts. Maria Perry, who entered the competition by submitting a video audition through YouTube.com, is a 52 year old resident of Kansas City, Missouri and “Zumba” fitness instructor.

The finalists from the competition represent an elite group of singers who have advanced through multiple stages of competition, grabbing the attention and winning the votes of online viewers (at YouTube.com and BostonPops.org), live audiences and Boston Pops judges alike.
