The Boston Pops led by conductor Keith Lockhart, in his 18th season with “America’s Orchestra,” will kick off the 2012 “Visions of America” spring Pops season with a gala opening night performance featuring Tony Award-winning icon Bernadette Peters on May 9.

Fenway Park is a Boston staple. As are the Boston Pops. Therefore, it only makes sense that the latter would be on hand to help celebrate the former’s birthday.

Williams, the composer, led members of the Boston Pops in the debut of his “Fanfare for Fenway”; Pops conductor Keith Lockhart took over for “The Star Spangled-Banner.” There was an Air Force flyover with planes from World War II, when Fenway was already middle-aged.
